Zagreb's red Zone I gives you two hours, no more, and since November 2024 it charges until midnight six days a week and until 15:00 on Sundays. Stay longer without a daily ticket and the warden writes you one for €13.30.
How I'd park: drive into a city garage such as Tuškanac or Langov trg and buy the €13.30 24-hour ticket at the booth within ten minutes of entering. The same 24 hours at the hourly rate would cost €29.60.
Parking in Zagreb: Two hours in the red zone, then a garage booth
1. Count to two in Zone I
Zone I costs €1.60 an hour with a two-hour maximum, so €3.20 is the most a single stay can cost. Since 19 November 2024 it charges Monday to Saturday 07:00–24:00 and Sunday 07:00–15:00. Overstay and Zagrebparking issues a daily ticket for €13.30. If the meter offers no hourly ticket at all, you're in Zone I.1 or I.2: daily tickets only, €19.90 or €15.90, charged around the clock.
2. Drop a zone to stay longer
Zones II.1 and II.2 are €0.70 an hour for up to three hours. Zone III is €0.30 an hour with no limit, and its daily ticket is €2.70. Both charge weekdays 07:00–20:00 and Saturday 07:00–15:00, and nothing on Sunday.
3. Don't text from a foreign phone
The SMS numbers (700101 for Zone I, 700102 for II.1, 700103 for III) work only on Croatian networks; Zagrebparking says foreign SIMs can't use them. Pay at the meter, buy a ticket at a newsstand kiosk, or use the city's ZgPark app, which stores a bank card. Bmove also lists Zagreb and takes cards; whether it works without a Croatian number, it doesn't say.
4. Buy the garage day ticket in ten minutes
Tuškanac (2.30 m roof), Langov trg (2.10 m) and Petrinjska (2.00 m) charge €1.60 an hour from 08:00 to 21:00 and €0.80 at night. The €13.30 24-hour ticket has to be bought from the staff within ten minutes of entering, entry ticket in hand. Miss that and a full day on the meter is €29.60. Kvaternikov trg, east of the centre, is €1.10 by day and €6.60 for 24 hours.
5. Stay out of the pedestrian core
The old centre is a pedestrian zone behind lifting bollards, under a 2024 city order. Permits go to residents, businesses and their visitors; deliveries run 06:00–11:00 on weekdays and 06:00–10:00 at weekends. If your hotel is inside, ask it to sort out access before you arrive. The city's restricted-traffic page lists no low-emission zone.
My pick is Tuškanac: 465 spaces and the highest roof of the city garages.

Towed in Zagreb: The pauk takes it to the Fair: €73 a night
1. Ring before you report a theft
Call Zagrebparking on 01 6421 888, 01 6421 881 or 091 4816 043. The tow truck, the pauk ("spider"), moves cars on the orders of traffic wardens, municipal officers or the police.
2. Go to the Fair, at any hour
Towed cars go to the car pound on the Zagreb Fair grounds, Servisna cesta Istok II, open 24 hours, every day.
3. Budget €73 for one night
For a car up to 1,500 kg the tow is €66.36 and storage €6.64 a day: €73 for one night, before any parking ticket. Over 1,500 kg the tow is €106.18, so €112.82. Catch the truck before it lifts the car and you pay €33.18 for the started procedure. The odd cents are old kuna prices converted at 7.5345.
4. Bring the registration and your ID
Zagreb Holding asks for the registration document (prometna dozvola) and personal ID. For a hire car, I'd ring the rental company first.
Storage is cheap here. The tow is the part that stings.

EV charging in Zagreb: Two plugs per garage, billed through HEP
1. Charge in a city garage
Six Zagrebparking garages have chargers: Langov trg, Petrinjska, Tuškanac, Kvaternikov trg, Gorica and Sveti Duh hospital. Most have two charging points; Sveti Duh has ten.
2. Don't expect it to be free
Visit Zagreb's parking page still says charging in the public garages is free, with prices in kuna. Zagrebparking says it's paid, through HEP's ELEN platform. The operator runs the plugs, so the operator wins.
3. Have a card ready for ELEN
ELEN is the national network run by HEP, the state power company. Pay in its app by scanning the charger's QR code, or ad hoc with a bank card, which is pre-authorised for €53 at DC and €33 at AC. Its price list dated 1 April 2025 wouldn't open for me; a May 2026 guide quotes €0.55 per kWh at 50 kW DC, which I can't confirm.
I'd charge overnight at Tuškanac and put the €13.30 day ticket on top.
Where to charge
- Zagrebparking garages — Langov trg, Petrinjska, Tuškanac, Kvaternikov trg, Gorica and Sveti Duh hospital garage. Mostly two charging points per garage, ten at Sveti Duh. Charging is paid through HEP's ELEN platform; power and price not published. Visit Zagreb's older page calls it free, but the operator says paid
- ELEN (HEP), the national network — Public chargers across Zagreb on the map in the ELEN app. Run by the state power company HEP: 22 kW AC posts and DC fast chargers with CCS and CHAdeMO. Pay by app (scan the QR code) or ad hoc by bank card, pre-authorised €53 at DC and €33 at AC. Price list dated 1 April 2025; I couldn't open it
Free parking in Zagreb: Sunday afternoons and €1.30 car parks
1. Park free on Sunday afternoon
Zones II, III and IV charge nothing on Sundays and public holidays. Zone I is free from 15:00 on Sunday, and every night from midnight to 07:00.
2. Try the Fair's east car park
Zagrebparking's hours page still says parking at Zagreb Fair East has been free since 8 April 2024 because of construction work. It's across the Sava, so check the sign before you walk away.
3. Pay €1.30 for the whole day
Zone IV.2 car parks cost €1.30 a day, Zone IV.1 €0.70, and IV.1 is free on Saturdays. In 2023 they included Gredelj, about 500 spaces by the bus station. The only park & ride, at Borongaj, is €2.30 for car and driver with a return ride on bus 228, but that bus serves Rebro hospital, not the centre.
I found no hotel whose own website promises free parking. Every price on this page was checked on Zagrebparking's own site on 3 October 2026.
Free or nearly-free spots
Sundays and nights on the Zagreb kerb
Zones II, III and IV are free on Sundays and public holidays. Zone I is free after 15:00 on Sunday and every night 00:00–07:00. Zones I.1 and I.2 charge around the clock.
Zagreb Fair East car park
Zagrebparking's charging-hours page says parking at Zagreb Fair East has been free since 8 April 2024 because of construction work. South of the Sava; check the sign on arrival.
Zone IV car parks: €1.30 a day
Not free, close to it: Zone IV.2 is €1.30 a day (Mon–Sat 07:00–20:00), Zone IV.1 €0.70 (weekdays 07:00–16:00). In 2023 these included Gredelj by the bus station, about 500 spaces.
⚠ The small print on 'free' parking
- Zone I allows two hours whatever you pay. Overstaying, or not paying, gets a €13.30 daily ticket from Zagrebparking. Since 19 November 2024 Zone I charges Mon–Sat 07:00–24:00 and Sun 07:00–15:00.
- SMS parking (700101 and the other zone numbers) works only on Croatian mobile networks; Zagrebparking says foreign SIMs can't use it. Pay at a meter, with a kiosk ticket or in the ZgPark app.
- In the city garages the €13.30 day ticket must be bought from staff within 10 minutes of entering, with the entry ticket. After that you pay by the hour: €29.60 for 24 hours at Tuškanac, Langov trg or Petrinjska.
- The central pedestrian zone sits behind lifting bollards. Permits go to residents, businesses and their visitors; deliveries 06:00–11:00 weekdays, 06:00–10:00 weekends. A hotel guest should ask the hotel to arrange access.
- I found no low-emission zone in Zagreb: the city's restricted-traffic page lists only pedestrian zones and their permits.
