Kutná Hora's two big sights are in different parts of town, so plan on parking twice: St Barbara's in the old town, the ossuary down in Sedlec. The town's paid car parks are cheap, 10 Kč for the first hour and 20 Kč after that, and Sunday isn't on the charging list at all.
How I'd park: on Štefánikova by the chapel, where a whole day is 20 Kč, or free on Na Valech. Then I'd drive to Sedlec and use the free bays on Vítězná.
Parking in Kutná Hora: Twenty crowns for the day on Štefánikova
1. Feed the machine on weekdays only
The town's paid car parks are on Václavské náměstí, Radnická, Lierova, Komenského náměstí and Havlíčkovo náměstí by the Italian Court. They charge Monday to Friday 07:00–17:00 and Saturday 08:00–12:00. The first hour is 10 Kč, each hour after that 20 Kč, so four hours come to 70 Kč. Pay in cash at the machine or by SMS. Texting costs more: a 2011 report gave 5 Kč extra an hour and 20 Kč extra for a day ticket.
2. Take the all-day bays by the chapel
The car park on Štefánikova by the chapel is 20 Kč for the whole day. That's the price of one extra hour on Václavské náměstí. It's where I'd go first.
3. Buy 30 minutes to drive into the centre
The streets around Palackého náměstí are closed to through traffic: Husova, Kollárova, Tylova, Vladislavova and Libušina. To drive in, you buy a 15 Kč ticket at the Husova machine, valid 30 minutes. The town's page asks for nothing else, no registration. I found no low-emission zone on its pages either.
4. Need the vignette? Only on the D11
From Prague the D11 motorway needs the Czech e-vignette. The I/2 road that runs through the town is an ordinary main road. For 2026 the vignette is 230 Kč a day, 300 Kč for ten days, 480 Kč a month. Two separate day trips cost 460 Kč, so a second visit means the ten-day one. The ministry says to buy on edalnice.cz.
5. Leave the Sedlec coach bays alone
Since May 2026 tour coaches pay 300 Kč a stop at the bays by the Zlatý lev restaurant in Sedlec. A new car park with about 50 car spaces and coach bays is due there by the end of 2026. After that coaches will drop people at Na Valech and park at the bus station.
Štefánikova for St Barbara's, Vítězná for the bones. That's the whole plan.

Towed in Kutná Hora: No car pound: the car comes back
1. Look around before you ring
Since 1 November 2017 the town has no permanent towing contract. When a car does have to be moved, mostly for street cleaning, the law says it goes back where it was once the job is done. So a missing car may be on its way back, or one street over.
2. Ring 156 for the town police
The municipal police are on 156, or 327 710 130 and 327 513 464 around the clock. The state police are on 158.
3. Budget for the 2017 prices
The town's page names a towing firm from Vavřinec that it calls when needed. Its maximum prices are set by town regulation 2/2017, but the page doesn't list them. In 2017 the local paper gave 1,950 Kč for a tow and 2,600 Kč for a tow and return, and fines of up to 2,000 Kč. The worst case on those figures is 4,600 Kč.
4. Read every street-cleaning sign
The police told the paper that drivers here have learnt to respect the cleaning closures, which is why towing became rare. Fines are the town's first tool now.
A small town that fines rather than tows. I'd still read the temporary signs before I lock up.
If your car has disappeared
- Who took it
- Since 1 November 2017 the town has no standing towing contract. The municipal police (Městská policie Kutná Hora) decide, and call a towing firm from Vavřinec when needed. A car moved for street cleaning is returned to where it was
- Phone
- Municipal police emergency line: 156
Municipal police operations desk, 24 hours: 327 710 130
Municipal police, second line, 24 hours: 327 513 464
State police: 158 - Collect it at
- There is no car pound: a removed car goes back to where it stood once the cleaning or work is done. Look in the surrounding streets, then ring the police. The old town is small.
- Hours
- The police operations desk answers 24 hours. No release hours are published, because there is no pound.
- What it costs
- Maximum prices are set by town regulation 2/2017, which the town's page does not reproduce. The local paper gave 1,950 Kč for a tow and 2,600 Kč for a tow and return in 2017, and fines of up to 2,000 Kč.
- Bring
- The town lists no documents. I would bring my driving licence, passport and the registration document or rental contract; in a hire car, ring the rental company first.
EV charging in Kutná Hora: One 180 kW charger at the Škoda dealer
1. Charge at Hrnčířská 214
The dealer UNIKOM runs a Schneider 180 kW charger at Hrnčířská 214 in Karlov. It's open 24 hours a day, you pay by bank card, and the dealer's own page gives 13 Kč per kWh, which it says can change with the market. A 2024 listing showed 15 Kč; the dealer sets the price, so I'd trust 13. Every 10 kWh is 130 Kč.
2. Don't look for plugs in the old town
The town publishes no charging map, and its parking page lists no chargers. I found nothing else in town I could confirm.
3. Skip the vignette in a pure EV
Fully electric and hydrogen cars pay no motorway vignette. Plug-in hybrids up to 50 g CO₂/km get 75% off.
I'd arrive with enough charge to get back to Prague and use Karlov only as a top-up.
Where to charge
- UNIKOM, Hrnčířská 214 — 180 kW — Hrnčířská 214, Karlov, at the Škoda dealer. Schneider 180 kW, open 24 hours, bank card, 13 Kč per kWh on the dealer's own page (it says the price can change). A 2024 directory listing showed 15 Kč; the dealer sets the price
- Old town: nothing published — The town's parking page lists no chargers and the town publishes no charging map. I could not confirm any other public charger in town. Electric and hydrogen cars pay no motorway vignette
Free parking in Kutná Hora: Na Valech and Vítězná cost nothing
1. Park free on Na Valech
The town lists free car parks at Na Valech off Kouřimská, on Masarykova by the Tyl Theatre, on Na Náměti by the police station, on Čáslavská by the pool and winter stadium, and on Lorecká by the Billa supermarket.
2. Use Vítězná for the ossuary
In Sedlec the town lists free parking on Vítězná, in three places. That's my pick for the bone chapel.
3. Come on Sunday or Saturday afternoon
Paid hours stop at 12:00 on Saturday and Sunday isn't listed. A Sunday visit makes every town car park free.
4. Sleep at U Kata
Hotel U Kata, Štefánikova 92, says on its own site that parking is free, with more than 40 spaces, and coaches by arrangement. It's the only hotel whose own page I could confirm.
Park on Štefánikova or Na Valech and walk. Every price above was checked on the town's and the operators' own pages on 6 October 2026.
Free or nearly-free spots
Na Valech, off Kouřimská
Free on the town's own list, walking distance from the old town. Also free: Masarykova by the Tyl Theatre, Na Náměti by the police station, Čáslavská by the pool and Lorecká by the Billa supermarket.
Vítězná, Sedlec, for the ossuary
The town lists three free parking spots on Vítězná in Sedlec. A new car park of about 50 spaces nearby is due by the end of 2026.
Sundays and Saturday afternoons
The town car parks charge Mon–Fri 07:00–17:00 and Sat 08:00–12:00 only. Sunday is not in the paid hours.
Hotels with free parking
- Hotel U Kata — Štefánikova 92, 284 01 Kutná Hora Map. Its own page says parking is free, in a private car park with more than 40 spaces; coaches by arrangement. No charging mentioned. The only hotel whose own site I could confirm
⚠ The small print on 'free' parking
- The streets around Palackého náměstí (Husova, Kollárova, Tylova, Vladislavova, Libušina) are closed to through traffic. A visitor buys a 15 Kč ticket at the Husova machine, valid 30 minutes. I found no low-emission zone.
- From Prague the D11 motorway needs the Czech e-vignette: 230 Kč a day, 300 Kč for ten days, 480 Kč a month in 2026. Buy it on edalnice.cz. The I/2 road through the town is not a motorway.
- Since May 2026 tour coaches pay 300 Kč a stop at the Sedlec bays by the Zlatý lev restaurant. When the new Sedlec car park opens, coaches will drop at Na Valech and park at the bus station.
- The town's car-park prices come from its tourist portal. The full-day cap of 100 Kč in a 2010 report is not on the current page, so I don't rely on it.
- Towing prices on this page are 2017 newspaper figures; the regulation that sets the current maximums (2/2017) is not reproduced on the town's page.
