Bolzano's old town is a camera-watched ZTL every day, around the clock, and hotel guests only get evening and weekend parking inside it. Drive past a gate and the fine starts at €83, posted to your home address.
I'd come off the A22 at Bolzano Nord and park at Bolzano Centro (P8) on Via Mayr Nusser: €2 an hour, €20 for 24 hours, five minutes' walk from Piazza Walther. On a market day I'd stop at the Fiera instead.
Parking in Bolzano: Twenty euros at Bolzano Centro, a camera at every gate
1. Treat the whole centre as closed
The ZTL covers the historic centre, upper and lower parts, 24 hours a day. A 2019 list counts 15 camera gates, including Viale Stazione, Via Cappuccini and Largo Kolping. A foreign plate gets the same letter as an Italian one, and it can arrive up to 360 days later.
2. Check your diesel's Euro class
The tourist office lists a weekday ban for Euro 0, Euro 1, Euro 2 diesel and Euro 3 diesel cars across the municipality, 07:00–10:00 and 16:00–19:00, public holidays excepted. There's no sticker or registration for foreign cars; the class on your papers is what counts.
3. Fit winter tyres from 15 November
ADAC says the city of Bozen and the A22 to Affi require winter equipment 15 November to 15 April, whatever the weather, with fines up to €345. A provincial road official said the same in 2018: winter tyres or chains on board. I couldn't find the current ordinance itself.
4. Park at Bolzano Centro for the day
Bolzano Centro (P8) has about 1,265 spaces and a 2.00 m roof. It's €2 an hour from 08:00 to 20:00, €1.20 at night, €20 for exactly 24 hours, then €0.80 an hour. A 09:00–19:00 day costs the full €20 anyway.
5. Use the app at WaltherPark
WaltherPark, opened in 2025 with 547 spaces under a 2.10 m roof. At the barrier it's €4.50 an hour and €24 a day; with the operator's Bmove app it's €2.50 and €19. The older Walther garage under the square charges the walk-up price.
6. Pay €3 at the kerb only briefly
Blue lines are paid Monday to Saturday and free on Sundays and holidays. Telepass lists €3 an hour on central streets such as Via Hofer and Via Cavour, paid until 21:00 on weekdays. White lines are residents only. I found no tariff table from the city itself.
Most visitors follow the sat nav to their hotel door. In Bolzano that door is usually behind a gate.

Towed in Bolzano: No published car pound, so ring the ZTL office
1. Call the municipal police first
The tourist office gives 0471 997799 for the municipal police ZTL office. Its desk is at Via Galileo Galilei 23; a 2019 page gives weekday hours, Friday mornings only. Outside them, I'd ring 112.
2. Expect no tariff in writing
I found no car pound address, opening hours, towing fee or storage fee published by the city. Ask the officer for the total before you go, and bring the registration document, licence and passport.
3. Budget for the camera, not the truck
A ZTL fine is €83 to €332 under Italy's highway code; paid within five days, €83 drops to €58.10. Four days at Bolzano Centro cost €80, about the same as one wrong turn.
Here the camera is the risk; I've seen no figures on how often the tow truck comes out.
If your car has disappeared
- Who took it
- The Polizia Municipale (municipal police) enforces parking and the ZTL. I found no published car pound, towing fee or storage fee for Bolzano
- Phone
- Municipal police ZTL office (information and exceptions): 0471 997799
Emergency, outside office hours or if you suspect theft: 112 - Collect it at
- No pound address is published. The municipal police office is at Via Galileo Galilei 23.

- What it costs
- Towing and storage: not published. A ZTL camera fine is €83–€332; paid within five days, €83 becomes €58.10.
- Bring
- The city lists nothing for visitors. I'd bring the registration document or rental contract, driving licence and passport, and ring the hire company first.
EV charging in Bolzano: Forty-two plugs under WaltherPark
1. Charge where you park
The operator lists 42 charging stations at WaltherPark, €0.49 per kWh on the 11 kW AC points. The tourist office's 2026 list says 36 Alpitronic units. I'd trust the operator's count.
2. Don't expect a city charging map
The tourist office points to the Neogy network's map, not a list of its own. None of the other central garages publishes chargers.
3. Keep the plan short
Thirty kWh at €0.49 is €14.70; add €19 for the day with the app and you're at about €34.
WaltherPark is where I'd charge, because it's the only garage that publishes a price.
Where to charge
- WaltherPark — 42 chargers — WaltherPark, under the new WaltherPark centre. Operator: 42 stations, €0.49 per kWh at 11 kW AC. The tourist office lists 36 Alpitronic units usable with a parking ticket; I'd trust the operator
- Neogy network — Public chargers across Bolzano; the tourist office links to Neogy's map rather than publishing its own. No prices were checked for this page; read the screen before you plug in
Free parking in Bolzano: Free at the Fiera for two hours, then fifty cents
1. Park on the Fiera roof
Fiera Bolzano has 800 rooftop spaces, a 3.50 m height limit, the first two hours free and €0.50 an hour after that. A ten-hour day is €4. Buses run about every 15 minutes, and the train to the main station takes about three minutes.
2. Use the Palasport from the west
The Palasport car park charges €0.30 an hour, so 24 hours is €7.20. Buses leave about every ten minutes. Last entry is 21:00.
3. Try the free lots at the edges
The tourist office lists free parking at Bolzano Sud by the A22 junction, at Maso della Pieve by the cemetery, and at the tourist car park on Via Macello, Monday to Saturday 09:30–18:00.
4. Tap a bank card on the bus
City buses sell no tickets on board. You tap a contactless card on the validator. No fare is published on that page.
The Fiera isn't branded park and ride, but for €4 a day it works like one.
Free or nearly-free spots
Fiera rooftop: two hours free
800 spaces, height 3.50 m, first two hours free and €0.50 an hour after. A ten-hour day is €4. Bus about every 15 minutes; train to the main station about 3 minutes.

Hotels and their parking
- B&B Hotel Bolzano — Via Werner von Siemens 18, 39100 Bolzano Map. Its own page: free outdoor parking, unattended, subject to availability. South-side business district; no charging mentioned
⚠ The small print on 'free' parking
- The whole historic centre is a ZTL, 24 hours a day, every day, in an upper and a lower part. A 2019 list counts 15 camera gates. Foreign plates are fined like Italian ones, and the notice may arrive up to 360 days later.
- Hotel guests in the ZTL may stop to unload and park on listed streets only on weekdays 19:15–08:30 and from Saturday 13:00 to Monday 08:30. How the plate is registered is not published, so I'd ask the hotel before arriving.
- The tourist office lists a weekday driving ban across the municipality for Euro 0, Euro 1, Euro 2 diesel and Euro 3 diesel cars, 07:00–10:00 and 16:00–19:00, holidays excepted.
- Winter equipment, tyres or chains on board, is required in the city and on the A22 from 15 November to 15 April regardless of weather, according to ADAC and a 2018 provincial statement. I couldn't find the current ordinance.
- In 2023 a trial ordinance closed approach roads in stages and diverted cars to Bolzano Centro, then the Fiera, when central garages reached 90%. Expect the same pattern on busy market weekends.
