Verona's old town is a camera zone visitors can't book. Unless you're sleeping at a hotel inside it, driving past any of its 11 gates is a fine of at least €83, and it finds you months later.
So I'd park at the city's Parcheggio Centro on Via Campo Marzo, €1 an hour and €10 for 24 hours, and walk ten minutes to the Arena.
Parking in Verona: Eleven gates, then €1 an hour at Campo Marzo
ZTL Centro Storico
- Foreign plates
- Give the plate to the hotel and it goes on the list — hotels and licensed guest houses only, not short-term tourist rentals.
- When
- Every day, Sundays and public holidays included. Eleven camera gates; booked access for those who qualify runs Mon–Fri 10:00–18:00 and 20:00–23:00, weekends and holidays 10:00–13:30.
- Fine
- €83–€332
1. Stay outside the eleven camera gates
The ZTL (limited traffic zone) covers the bend of the Adige between Castelvecchio and Ponte Aleardi, plus Piazza Bra and Via Roma. Gates stand at Via Leoni, Ponte Garibaldi, Via Dogana, Piazzetta Municipio and seven other streets. It runs every day. The booking windows you'll read about (weekdays 10:00–18:00 and 20:00–23:00, weekends 10:00–13:30) are for residents of Verona and its province, four entries a month. Not for you.
2. Hotel inside? Send the plate first
Guests of hotels and licensed guest houses in the zone may drive in once the hotel has put the plate on the city's white-list, Citypass. Short-term tourist rentals are excluded; the city switched off their logins. I'd email the plate with the booking and ask for a written yes.
3. Park at Centro for €10 a day
AMT3's Parcheggio Centro is open and staffed 24/7. It's €1 an hour, and once you pass ten hours the whole 24 costs €10. The roof is 2.20 m, and LPG cars can't use level −2. Two days cost €20. The Arena is under ten minutes on foot, or take bus 70.
4. Pay more only to be closer
APCOA's Cittadella is five minutes from the Arena, but €3.50 for the first hour and €23 a day, under 2.15 m. That's €13 a day more than Centro. Saba's Arena car park is open 24 hours with a 2 m roof, and I couldn't read a walk-up price anywhere. A Verona Card takes 10% off its hourly rate.
5. Want cheaper? Go to the stations
At Porta Vescovo, east of the centre, AMT3 charges €5 for 24 hours. The two car parks at Porta Nuova station give the first 30 minutes free, then €1.50 an hour and €15 a day.
6. Check the colour of the blue bay
Inside the ZTL, blue bays are €2 an hour from 08:00 to midnight, Sundays included. In San Zeno, Veronetta, Cittadella and the other outer sectors it's €1 an hour, weekdays 08:00–20:00. A broken meter doesn't make it free: pay in AMT3's web app or EasyPark, Telepass Pay and the other listed apps.
Ten hours in a ZTL bay is €20. Centro does 24 for €10.

Towed in Verona: Via del Pontiere, then one of two tow yards
1. Ring the Polizia Locale
The municipal police headquarters at Via del Pontiere 32A is open around the clock, support line +39 045 8078411. The city's online plate search was marked unavailable when I checked.
2. Ask which yard has it
Two firms take turns month by month: Lepanto2 and Vulgom Boni. The city doesn't say which month is whose, so ask the police before you take a taxi.
3. Budget €76 before the fine
The tariff in force since 1 May 2025 for a car up to 1.5 t: call-out €19.54, loading €29.14, €4.20 per km to the depot. A 5 km tow comes to €69.68. Storage of €6.33 a day starts after the first 12 hours, so one night makes €76.01. Between 22:00 and 06:00, and on holidays, add 30%. The parking fine comes on top.
4. Bring papers, not just the plate
The city lists only the plate number. I'd bring the registration or rental contract, licence and passport, and call the hire company first.
The tow truck is cheap here. The camera is what costs you.
If your car has disappeared
- Who took it
- The Polizia Locale (municipal police) orders removals; two contractors, Lepanto2 and Vulgom Boni, take turns month by month to tow and store the cars
- Phone
- Polizia Locale specialist support line: +39 045 8078411
City of Verona switchboard: +39 045 8077111 - Collect it at
- The city names two contractors without saying which yard is used when: Lepanto2 and Vulgom Boni. Ask the Polizia Locale at Via del Pontiere 32A which one has your car.
- Hours
- Polizia Locale headquarters open 24 hours. Yard hours not published. The online plate search (rimozioni.comune.verona.it) was listed as unavailable on 11 October 2026.
- What it costs
- Tariff in force from 1 May 2025, car up to 1.5 t: call-out €19.54, loading €29.14, €4.20 per km to the depot; storage €6.33 a day for the first three days, then €4.69, counted after the first 12 hours. +30% 22:00–06:00 and on holidays. The fine is extra.
- Bring
- The city lists only the plate number. I would bring the registration document or rental contract, my driving licence and passport, and ring the hire company first.
EV charging in Verona: About 80 public posts, and no free bay
1. Pay for the blue bay anyway
AMT3 says electric and hybrid cars pay for blue-line parking like any other car.
2. Look for AGSM AIM or Enel X
The council's own 2022 e-mobility plan counted about 80 public posts: roughly 50 quick points from AGSM AIM, the local utility, and 15 Enel X posts, five of them 50 kW. The city publishes no kWh price, so read the screen.
3. Don't count on four plugs at Centro
Parcheggio Centro's page lists four EV bays on level −1; the AMT3 FAQ says two charging points. Saba's Arena car park lists charging without a count or price.
4. Drive electric through the smog season
Verona's winter anti-smog ordinance, no. 56, applies from 1 October 2026, and electric and hybrid cars are exempt. The city page I could read doesn't list which classes are banned, so check before arriving in an older diesel.
I'd charge at Centro and treat the €10 day cap as the real saving.
Where to charge
- AGSM AIM and Enel X public posts — Across the city; the council publishes no tariff of its own. The council's e-mobility plan (December 2022) counted about 80 public posts: about 50 quick points from AGSM AIM, the local utility, and 15 Enel X posts, five of them 50 kW. Each operator sets its own price
- Parcheggio Centro, level −1 — Parcheggio Centro, Via Campo Marzo. Four EV bays on the car-park page, two charging points in the FAQ; AMT3 says it is the only one of its car parks with charging. Parking caps at €10 for 24 hours
- Saba Arena car park — Saba Arena, behind Piazza Bra. Booking sites list EV charging here; how many points and the price are not published
Free parking in Verona: Porta Palio, outer streets on Sunday
1. Try Porta Palio first
Porta Palio car park on Viale Galliano is free, with about a hundred spaces according to Fleet Magazine, 15 minutes' walk from Castelvecchio. It fills at weekends.
2. Use outer blue bays on Sunday
In San Zeno, Veronetta, Catena, Pindemonte, Cittadella and Faccio-Foroni, blue bays are free on weekdays from 20:00 to 08:00 and all day Sunday and holidays. Corso Porta Nuova and three Borgo Trento squares charge every day, so read the sign.
3. Don't expect free hotel parking
I found no hotel whose own website promises free parking. Ask, and get the answer in writing.
Every price here was checked on the city's or operator's site on 11 October 2026.
Free or nearly-free spots
Porta Palio, free outside the walls
On Viale Galliano by the Porta Palio gate: free, about a hundred spaces according to Fleet Magazine, roughly 15 minutes' walk to Castelvecchio. It fills at weekends and in high season.
Outer blue bays: free evenings and Sundays
In San Zeno, Veronetta, Catena, Pindemonte, Cittadella and Faccio-Foroni, blue bays are free on weekdays from 20:00 to 08:00 and all day on Sundays and holidays. Corso Porta Nuova and three Borgo Trento squares charge every day.
⚠ The small print on 'free' parking
- The ZTL runs every day behind 11 camera gates. The booking windows (weekdays 10:00–18:00 and 20:00–23:00, weekends 10:00–13:30) are for residents of Verona and its province, four entries a month. A foreign visitor gets in only as a guest of a hotel or licensed guest house inside, with the plate sent ahead.
- Short-term tourist rentals (locazioni turistiche) cannot register guest plates: the city disabled their Citypass logins. If your flat is inside the ZTL, park outside.
- A ZTL fine is €83–€332 under the Highway Code; two motoring sites give €98.50 as notified, €73.60 if paid within five days. For a foreign resident the notice can arrive up to 360 days later, and a hire company adds its own admin fee.
- Verona's winter anti-smog ordinance (no. 56 of 28 September 2026) applies from 1 October 2026. Electric and hybrid cars are exempt, and so are guests of accommodation inside the restricted area on arrival and departure days, with the booking. The city page I could read does not list the banned classes.
- Parcheggio Centro's own page lists 4 EV bays; the AMT3 FAQ says two charging points. Saba Arena's address is given as Via Bentegodi 8 by one booking site and Via Kessler 3 by another.
