Lille's kerb charges €35 for five hours in the yellow zone, and €35 is also what you pay if you don't pay at all. That's the post-parking charge (FPS), and the city has applied it since 2023.
So I'd skip the kerb. Coming off the ferry or the tunnel, I'd leave the car at a free metro park and ride, buy a €1.90 ticket each way, and be on the Grand Place in twenty minutes.
Parking in Lille: €2 an hour, €35 for five, ZFE everywhere
1. Fit a Crit'Air disc before Calais
The whole Métropole Européenne de Lille, all 95 communes, has been a ZFE low-emission zone since 1 January 2025, around the clock. The motorway sections inside it count too: A1, A22, A23, A25 and A27. Only unclassified vehicles are banned, roughly petrol and diesel cars first registered before 1997. The MEL's dossier says nothing about foreign cars, and France's national ZFE fine is €68. The disc is €5.11 posted abroad from certificat-air.gouv.fr, and only from there. I'd buy it.
2. Read the meter colour first
Two parking guides agree on the hypercentre's yellow zone: €2 for one hour, €5 for two, €12 for three, €20 for four, €35 for five, and five hours is the limit. The orange zone gives 30 minutes free, then the same scale. The green zone starts at €1 and tops out at €25. Paid hours are Monday to Saturday 09:00–19:00; Sundays and public holidays are free. August isn't.
3. Don't stay past three hours
Look at the jumps: the fourth hour costs €8 and the fifth €15. Four hours at the kerb is €20; the same four hours at the Opéra car park is €6.80 if its €1.70 hourly rate holds. Past the second hour, I'd be under a roof.
4. Park under the Opéra, not the square
Indigo Grand Place is the obvious one, right under the square, and the dearest: €2.60 a half hour, €28 for 24 hours, height 1.80 m. Effia Opéra, on the edge of Vieux-Lille, is €1.70 an hour and €14 for 24 hours. That's €14 saved on a day. These prices come from one booking site dated July 2026; neither operator published a tariff I could read.
5. Bring a roof box to Nouveau Siècle
Most central garages are 1.80–1.90 m: Grand Place and Lille Plaza 1.80 m, Rues Piétonnes – Le 31 and Euralille 1.90 m. Nouveau Siècle takes 2.30 m, from about €1.80 an hour.
The classic mistake is trusting an old guide: Indigo's own 2020 article still says the FPS is €17. It isn't.

Towed in Lille: Lille hides its car pound
1. Check the windscreen first
No ticket? An FPS arrives by post or on the glass, and the city deducts what you did pay: one driver was billed €33 after paying €2. A missing car is a different story.
2. Try rue Frédéric Combemale
The city publishes no towing page that I could find. A parking website lists the municipal car pound at 30 rue Frédéric Combemale, open Monday to Saturday 08:00–11:45 and 14:00–17:45. No official page confirms it, so treat it as a lead. If you think the car was stolen, ring 112.
3. Bring €177 and your papers
Lille has no scale of its own, so the national ceilings apply from 1 October 2026: €135 to remove a car and €7.15 a day storage. Add the €35 FPS and a next-day pickup is €177.15. Arrive before the truck leaves and it's €15.20 instead. I'd bring my licence, passport, the registration document and a card.
A pound that won't print its own address is a pound I'd rather not visit.
If your car has disappeared
- Who took it
- The police (municipal or national) order removals in Lille; the city publishes no towing page that I could find
- Phone
- European emergency number, if the car is gone and you think it was stolen: 112
- Collect it at
- Not published by the city. A parking website lists the municipal pound at 30 rue Frédéric Combemale, open Mon–Sat 08:00–11:45 and 14:00–17:45; no official page confirms it.
- Hours
- Mon–Sat 08:00–11:45 and 14:00–17:45, according to one parking website only.
- What it costs
- National ceilings from 1 October 2026 (Lille has no separate scale): €135 to remove a car, €7.15 a day storage, €15.20 if you arrive before it leaves. The parking charge (€35 FPS) is on top.
- Bring
- Not published for Lille. I would bring my driving licence, passport, the registration document (or hire agreement) and a bank card.
EV charging in Lille: Chargers exist, the prices don't
1. Don't count on a city network
The Métropole publishes no public charging tariff that I could read. An electric car is Crit'Air 0, so the ZFE never stops it.
2. Charge under the Grand Place
Two booking sites say Indigo Grand Place has chargers. Neither gives a number or a price, so read the screen before you plug in.
3. Top up cheaply at Lidl
One charging directory lists Lidl on boulevard Victor Hugo: three points up to 22 kW, Type 2, €0.29 per kWh, in service since March 2025.
4. Sleep where the plugs are free
Accor's own page says Mercure Lille Marcq-en-Barœul has a free car park with 12 charging points, and Novotel Lille Aéroport has 16 Tesla Superchargers.
My pick for an overnight charge is the Mercure: free parking and a plug in one place.
Where to charge
- Indigo Grand Place — Indigo Grand Place, under the Grand Place. Two booking sites say it has chargers; Indigo publishes no number or price that I could read
- Lidl, boulevard Victor Hugo — Lidl Lille Victor Hugo, south of the centre. Three points up to 22 kW, Type 2, €0.29 per kWh, commissioned March 2025, according to one charging directory
- Mercure Lille Marcq-en-Barœul — Mercure Lille Marcq-en-Barœul, north of Lille. Accor's own page: free private car park with 12 charging points
Free parking in Lille: Ten metro car parks, one ticket
1. Ride in from a P+R
Ilévia's park and rides are free. To get out you need a ticket validated the same day on a Pass Pass card or rechargeable ticket; a ZAP short-hop ticket doesn't count. A return trip is €3.80, a day pass €5.70, both from 1 August 2026. Two guides say 24 hours is the rule, with up to seven days tolerated.
2. Pick your line by direction
From Calais and Dunkirk, I'd use Saint-Philibert at the end of metro 2 (370 spaces). From the south, CHU – Eurasanté on metro 1 (250). From the east, 4 Cantons – Stade Pierre-Mauroy is the giant: 2,040 spaces, open 05:00–01:00, from 06:00 on Sundays.
3. Know the smaller ones
Metro 2 also has Les Prés – Edgard Pisani (500), Porte d'Arras (100), Tourcoing Gare (222) and Pont de Neuville (40). Porte des Postes (90) serves both lines. The tram has Cerisaie (60).
4. Park on the kerb on Sunday
Sundays and public holidays are free on the street, and so is every evening after 19:00.
Against €28 a day at Grand Place, the P+R and a day pass save you €22.30. Every source on this page was read on 12 October 2026.
Free or nearly-free spots
Metro park and rides: free if you ride
Ilévia's P+R sites are free; you need a ticket validated the same day to get out. On metro 1: 4 Cantons – Stade Pierre-Mauroy (2,040 spaces, 05:00–01:00, Sundays from 06:00), CHU – Eurasanté (250), Porte des Postes (90, also line 2). On metro 2: Saint-Philibert (370), Les Prés – Edgard Pisani (500), Porte d'Arras (100), Tourcoing Gare (222), Pont de Neuville (40). By tram: Cerisaie (60). Train-station sites: Armentières, Don-Sainghin, La Bassée, Seclin.
Sundays, holidays and evenings on the kerb
Two parking guides give paid hours as Monday to Saturday 09:00–19:00, free on Sundays and public holidays. August is not free.
Free first minutes in orange and azur streets
Orange zone: 30 minutes free. Azur shopping streets: one free hour since 6 January 2025 according to one guide (another still says 30 minutes); take the free ticket from the meter and display it.
Hotels and their parking
- Mercure Lille Marcq-en-Barœul — Marcq-en-Barœul, north of Lille Map. Accor's own page: large free private car park with 12 charging points
- ibis Styles Lille Villeneuve d'Ascq — Villeneuve-d'Ascq, east of Lille Map. Accor's own page: near the main roads, free parking
- Novotel Lille Aéroport — Lesquin, by Lille airport Map. Accor's own page: closed free car park and 16 Tesla Superchargers
⚠ The small print on 'free' parking
- The whole Métropole Européenne de Lille, 95 communes, is a ZFE 24/7, and the A1, A22, A23, A25 and A27 sections inside it count. Only unclassified cars (petrol or diesel cars first registered before 1997) are banned. The MEL dossier says nothing about foreign cars, so I'd fit the €5.11 Crit'Air disc anyway.
- The fine for a car in a French ZFE is €68 (national rate). The Métropole publishes nothing on how or whether it enforces.
- Old figures still circulate: Indigo's 2020 guide gives the FPS as €17 and five hours as €17. Lille's administration said in a 2024 reply that the FPS has been €35 since 2023.
- Grand Place and Lille Plaza are 1.80 m; a roof box belongs at Nouveau Siècle (2.30 m) or a P+R.
- Car park prices on this page come from one booking site dated 18 July 2026; neither Indigo nor Effia published a tariff I could read.
- During the Braderie (first weekend of September) the centre closes to traffic and two million or more people come; I'd park at a metro P+R and ride in.
